3D Filipino Magazine in Dubai Set to Launch on Independence Day

Filipino entrepreneur Jonah Cruz will launch the first complete 3D magazine in the Middle East on the 113th Philippine Independence Day to inspire her fellow expatriates to come out from their comfort zone and do things that will challenge their perceptions of who they are and make them self-confident.

Jonah Cruz, 27, 3D creator and editor of Mint Magazine, the latest magazine for Filipinos in the UAE, said she innovates to figure out a way to capture the readers’ attention and, in the process, connects with them through stories that will uplift and change their lives.

A first of its kind in the entire region dubbed as “Pinoy Freedom in UAE” will enhance all photos, artworks and advertisements using a technique for creating optical illusion of depth called stereoscopic or 3D imaging. 3D glasses will come with each copy of the magazine.

The 3D magazine, which will come in 60 pages will be distributed in UAE by Blue Track, which will have 5,000 copies and distributed free of charge from June to September 2011. By October, it will be sold at Dh7.

2011 New Year Greeting

May Lord almighty make your year a happy one! Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain, But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes;
Not by making your path easy, But by making you sturdy to travel any path; Not by taking hardships from you, But by taking fear from your heart; Not by granting you unbroken sunshine, But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows;

Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. Happy New Year Everyone!!!

2010: Ramadan Kareem

Ramadan Kareem to all Muslim around the world! Today is the first day of Ramadan, where the astronomical new moon was sighted last night.

To those who are not Muslim and new here in Dubai, most probably they have heard the word Ramadan but have not really experience how the month of Ramadan differs from the rest of the month.

Now, what is Ramadan? Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast. Muslims all over the world abstain from any types of food even chewing gum or candies, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking.

Fasting is the most important event of this month. During Ramadan, Muslims will get up before dawn to eat then they perform a prayer. They have to stop eating and drinking before the call for prayer starts until the fourth prayer of the day.

Remember these Do’s and don’t during Ramadan to avoid paying fines of AED2,000 or imprisonment.

  • Don’t smoke, drink or eat in public during the hours of sunrise to sunset. This includes while you are driving as well as in public places such as shopping malls.
  • Do smoke, drink and eat in the privacy of your home or hotel room.
  • Don’t be overly rowdy. Keep stereos on low volume while driving, on the beach or in your house, so as not to disturb your Muslim neighbors.
  • Do give food to the poor. Ramadan is renowned for its charitable nature.
  • Do get sociable in the evenings for Iftar.
  • Do say Ramadan Kareem.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan that is expected to be on September 11.
